Herman Verrelst - CEO - Cartagenia -
Herman Verrelst is an experienced entrepreneur and business manager, with a specific background in the set up and management of high-tech companies and university spin-offs.
In the past, he has been CEO, director and business unit manager in a number of software/bioinformatics based ventures, in the areas of gene expression based cancer biomarkers, medical imaging and pre-operative planning software and financial crime and compliance solutions.
He received a Master’s Degree in Engineering from the K.U.Leuven in 1996 and spent 4 years as a researcher and project coordinator at the same university focusing on artificial intelligence and various applications of advanced data analytics.

Drew Arnold has spent 15-plus years in sales and business development in the life sciences, specializing in growing revenues for early-stage technology companies
Drew joins Cartagenia from GenomeQuest, Inc. where he headed the global sales team. Previously, He has held management positions at Silicon Informatics and LION bioscience.
After receiving his PhD from Cornell University, Drew spent three years as a researcher at the Mayo Clinic. He also holds degrees from the University of Minnesota and Oregon State University.

Steven Van Vooren - Sales Director EU - Cartagenia - Ph. D
Steven Van Vooren obtained a MSc in Computer Sciences at the University of Ghent in 1999. He gathered experience as IT project manager with Dexia Bank. Later, he obtained a MSc in Artificial intelligence (2003) and a MSc in bioinformatics (2003), and a postgraduate degree in medical cytogenetics (2008). In 2009 he finished a PhD in Engineering Sciences on medical genetics data mining at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. This PhD work catalysed a narrow collaboration between the center for Human Genetics at the Univeristy Hospital of Leuven, and the Bioinformatics department of the Engineering Faculty. This collaboration led to the incorporation of Cartagenia.

Bert Coessens - Operations Director - Cartagenia - Ph. D
Bert Coessens’ background is in molecular biotechnology. He received a master’s degree in bio-engineering from the K.U.Leuven in 2001 and a PhD in bioinformatics from the civil engineering department at the K.U.Leuven in 2006. Since 2006 he has been involved in a number of projects with a focus on valorisation of research results. From late 2008 on he has been involved in the startup and further growth of Cartagenia.
